DETAILS:
Please join us in celebrating the diverse wonders that Black River Preserve offers with a guided hike, picnic, and river paddle!
SWMLC is in the process of creating public access infrastructure at this preserve, including a parking area, trailhead, and 4 to 5 miles of trails offering scenic vistas of this 120 acre property’s beautiful beech-maple ravines. Our goal is to provide a nearby place for the greater South Haven community to enjoy nature.
The guided hike will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until about 11:30 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch at the preserve. We will provide hot dogs, buns, salad, and water. Participants are welcome to bring any additional items that they would like to share.
Separately, SWMLC is teaming up with the Two Rivers Coalition (TRC) and Bangor-South Haven Heritage Water Trail Association (B/SHHWTA) to offer a guided paddle along the Black River. The guided river paddle will launch at 1:30 p.m., conclude at 3:30 p.m., and will highlight the splendor of the river corridor canopy which includes mature sycamores, hemlocks, and beech trees.
* The paddle is a reservation-only event and there is limited space.
* Participants must provide their own kayaks or rent them. A limited number may be available for no cost.
* Paddlers may park at the Golden Dreams campground directly across the street from the Black River Preserve, from which the paddle will launch as well.
* Please contact SWMLC at (269) 324-1600 for further details and to RSVP.
DIRECTIONS:
From M-43 and the traffic circle at Maple Grove Corners, take CR-689 north to the T-stop at 8th Ave. Turn right (east) on 8th Ave, and look for the preserve on the south side. If you get to 68th St, you’ve gone too far.
